Help develop environmental awareness

The greatest threat the Indonesia’s rain forests comes from those who have the most to lose if the forest disappears.

People living on communities on the periphery of endangered rain forests wreak massive devastation through land clearing and illegal logging.

Through ignorance and deliberate misinformation, they do not realize that their survival depends on a healthy, bio-diverse rain forest.

Now, we are helping local communities to reassess their role in the tropical rain forest ecosystem. A series of videos focusing on endangered species aims to raise awareness of and initiate dialog about environment-protection issues in forest-side communities throughout Indonesia.

Produced in three versions: for children, adult community members, and policy makers, the videos speak directly to those who suffer from rampant forest destruction, and propose viable solutions that address the immediate needs of affected communities.

The first three episodes: Orangutan, Babirusa and Elephant, are now being distributed throughout Indonesia.

We need your help to keep them coming.
Each episode costs over US$ 25.000 to produce.

Next up on Indonesia’s most endangered list:

-      Sumatran Rhino
-      Javan Rhino
-      Sumatran Tiger
-      Sulawesi Black Crested Macaque
-      Maleo Bird
-      Birds of Paradise
-      Sea Turtles
-      Komodo Dragon

Orangutan with Leli from Sumatra

In the rapidly disappearing rain forests of Sumatra, one of our closest cousins is on the knife edge of survival. In this video, learn how the orangutan, the “man of the forest” clings to life as his habitat shrinks through the conversion of natural forest to farms and plantations. But while the orangutan faces extinction, other “men of the forest” the people living near his habitat, are learning that protecting the remaining forest lands may be the key to their own survival.

Babirusa with Rizki from Sulawesi

The rain forests of Indonesia are home to many strange creatures, but none is quite so peculiar as the babirusa, the “pig deer” of Sulawesi. Follow Rusdi, a boy living on the edge of the babirusa’s forest home, as he observes the habits of this shy, odd, and oddly endearing animal. Like Rusdi, who must trek ever deeper into the forest to find his elusive friends, you will discover that the babirusa is on the edge of extinction, one more victim of the destruction of Indonesia’s once-vast tropical rain forests.

Elephant with Budi from Sumatra

Children are inseparable from animals, and animals -- at least in the wild -- are inseparable from their environment. Join three children living on the edge of Indonesia's threatened rain forests as they introduce you to Indonesia's most endangered species. Learn how the ferocious tusks of the babirusa hides a shy nature. See how the orangutan, "the man of the forest," fights for survival as his forest home vanishes. And discover how the age-old bond between man and elephant may save the gentle giant from extinction. Most importantly, share the concern of these children as the face an uncertain future without the forest that is their playground and the source of their families' livelihood.
